A useful rainy-day plan in Seoul has one confirmed indoor visit, a realistic route to its entrance and a nearby fallback. Choosing several museums from a list is only the first step. You still need to check the date, last admission, reservation rules and whether the particular exhibition you want is open.

This guide helps you build that plan without turning a wet afternoon into a cross-city checklist. Start with our first-trip planning checklist if you are still deciding where to stay and which days to keep flexible.

Choose one anchor and one fallback

Pick the indoor visit you most want to make. Then choose a second option that would still interest you if the first cannot work. Compare the actual door-to-door routes from your accommodation. Two places that look close on a city map may involve different station exits, outdoor paths or a return through a busy interchange.

Write down a latest sensible departure time for each option. Leave room to stop for food and dry belongings. A shorter visit with a clear return route can be more comfortable than trying to preserve every outdoor stop in the original itinerary.

Check five things on the official venue website

Check Question to answer
Exact branch Is this the location of the exhibition I want?
Date and notices Is there a regular closure, holiday exception or temporary gallery closure?
Last admission What is the final entry time, rather than only the building's closing time?
Admission type Does this hall, special exhibition or activity need a ticket or reservation?
Practical facilities What are the bag, umbrella, restroom and step-free access arrangements?

Use the page for the activity itself when it has separate rules. A museum's general admission information may not cover a children's session, guided tour, special exhibition or interactive experience.

Example 1: separate the National Museum of Korea's activities

The National Museum of Korea's official English homepage distinguishes its general admission information from special exhibitions and publishes gallery notices. Its displayed last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Read the notices as well as the opening-hours panel before choosing the visit.

The museum's reservation page states that the Children's Museum needs an online reservation, although admission is free. It also gives a separate reservation requirement for the VR experience in Immersive Digital Gallery 2. “Free” therefore does not tell you whether you can arrive without a booking for the activity you have chosen.

For a family plan, choose the session first and arrange travel around it. Save the confirmation where you can open it promptly. If there are no suitable sessions, choose a different activity rather than assuming the same ticket will cover another area.

Example 2: read the branch details at Seoul Museum of Art

The Seosomun Main Branch visitor page lists a regular Monday closure and last admission one hour before closing. It also distinguishes special exhibitions from the general free-admission information. Use the branch's current calendar and exhibition page for your date, particularly around public holidays.

Its listed facilities include lockers and an elevator. That information can help you prepare questions, but it does not reserve a locker or establish that your largest suitcase fits. If bags or accessibility requirements determine whether your visit works, confirm those details directly before leaving.

Keep the route and weather checks together

The Korea Meteorological Administration's English weather-alert page is an official place to review alerts. Check the issue time, validity period and relevant area on what you see. A saved screen or search preview may describe an earlier period; it is not proof of conditions for your outing.

Also read transport or venue notices before departure. An indoor destination still requires a journey to its entrance. If local instructions call for changes to travel, revise the plan rather than treating a museum booking as a reason to keep the original route.

A compact plan to save on your phone

  1. Venue and exact branch name, with the Korean address if available.
  2. Confirmed visit date, activity and any reservation.
  3. Last admission and your own planned arrival time.
  4. Route to the entrance and any required accessible approach.
  5. Fallback choice and the time to decide whether to switch.

Our Seoul transport guide explains the navigation and transfer basics. Keep this day's venue note beside the route so you can change one part of the plan without starting everything again.
